Mets Sign Taijuan Walker to 2-Year Deal

According to Andy Martino of SNY and Joel Sherman of the New York Post (financials), the New York Mets have solidified their starting rotation by signing Taijuan Walker to a reported two-year, $20 million deal.

Walker, 28, started the 2020 season in Seattle before being traded to Toronto during their playoff push. The former top prospect posted a 2.70 ERA/4.56 FIP through those 11 starts and really locked in when he arrived in Toronto (1.37 ERA over six starts).

The addition to Walker answers a lot of questions for the beginning of the season — depth is great — but also adds new questions for when Noah Syndergaard returns.

The fight for the fifth spot in the rotation is now between David Peterson, the newly-acquired Joey Lucchesi, and the depth the Mets have in Franklyn Kilome, Jordan Yamamoto, Sean Reid-Foley, Jerad Eickhoff, and others.
